I knew that one day he would find me. Perhaps I even made it easy for him. I knew what he would have to do when he did, and still, somewhere deep inside, a small and foolish hope remained.
There was no grand entrance. He entered the room quietly. I didn’t need to see the knife to know it was there, I had never known him to kill any other way. He stopped before me. I knew these were my last moments, yet I couldn’t help but think what a striking man he was.
The softness in his eyes was just as I remembered, and for a brief, dangerous moment I wondered if he remembered me the same way.
