Think a little first…

I shared this post a couple of days ago. My thoughts being that in a medical setting, immunocompromised people should be protected from further risk.
Within minutes this meme was posted in the comments, the first comment in fact and it gained a fair amount of support.

There was no accompanying comment, just the meme, from a woman. I add the gender because it seems that men are always being attacked for their interactions. But I can attest to the fact that women are just the same, if not worse when it comes to being mean spirited, aggressive and bullying. I’m not specifically targeting this woman, her interaction was just a segway to the topic. Point being, I find this type of interaction unacceptable.
For me, what is really interesting, in my mind, the post had nothing to do with covid. I have often had to wear masks many years before Covid, so I was accustomed to them. I was just making a point that in a medical enviornment they should be a prerequisite. There isn't a world that exists for me where I wouldn't wear a mask to protect an unwell person from catching something, I might unwittingly be carrying. Sure I agree they are uncomfortable and there are definitely people, that for various reasons are unable to wear them. But for those that can, in my opinion, should.
I have previously written about my personal pandemic thoughts and experiences - the blog - I chose my fate... so I won't go into it again , nor do I feel the need to. I'm just incensed by the immediate assumption and aggression people so easily jump to. Followed by what has become the stock standard arguments regarding the science or lack there of, and the demands to cite the research data and scientific studies. People are just so ready to go into verbal battle.
No critical thought whatsoever was given to my post, just a quick meme search rebuttal.
I'm not really interest in entertaining dialogue with people who respond from a cache of, at the ready memes, who don't even take a beat before passing judgement. There is nothing of value in that, just virtue signalling and the repetition of a judgemental need to control a narrative.
Can we not have meaningful, respectful conversations anymore? I knew that the post might be taken out of context, garner some debate, but posted it because, it resinated with me. It’s not an agenda or finger pointing, it’s logic. I often think twice before sharing posts, because I know how easily topics can go pear shaped. But if I chose not to post on that premise, I would have no content of any depth. It’s not that I don’t understand the debate regarding Covid and masks. I am part of a divided household, yet all would choose to wear a mask rather than compromise another. However, this was not about that topic, and even if it was, an aggresive meme is no way to communicate. Nor is making assumptions that were made regarding my medical status and views. Not cool and not even close to reality. It’s not woe is me, someone was mean, it’s a plea for respectful interaction towards everyone, regardless of views. Pretty simple really.
