To post or not to post…

I keep seeing this quote. I think about posting it, but then I decide against it.
“We are all prostitutes and junkies”, it’s definitely provocative, but I can’t decide how it might be received. Well maybe I can and that’s why I haven’t shared it.
If it’s taken metaphorically, it would be seen as a commentary on modern life, the idea that we all sell parts of ourselves (our time, our values, our privacy) and that we’re all addicted to something (approval, distraction, routine, chaos, love, etc.). In that sense, it’s not necessarily meant to insult, but to challenge or provoke thought.
But taken literally or without context, yeah it could be perceived as harsh or judgmental. Some people might find it offensive or reductive, especially if they’ve struggled with addiction or exploitation.
Personally I don’t find it offensive. It feels like the truth. Maybe an uncomfortable truth, but still the truth. It’s not one of those quotes that I worry about causing division or hatred. It’s more about offending those that have struggled, I don’t want to diminish their experiences by insinuating it’s just a metaphor for life…
