Something that genuinely bothers me about the internet is the way we now have to censor ordinary words.

People use alternative spellings or coded language, not because the words themselves are harmful, but because we know using them openly can lead to posts being buried, restricted, or pages being penalised. It’s not about fear, it’s about consequence.

But how are we supposed to talk about important topics if we can’t use necessary words? How do we support someone who is fragile if we’re forced to dilute the very language needed to speak honestly?

Real healing conversations require real language.

Sanitising words doesn’t make difficult experiences disappear. It just makes honest discussion harder and pushes important topics further into silence. Somewhere along the way, even everyday words have effectively become off limits.

We’ve reached a strange point where context no longer seems to matter, where supportive conversations, survivor advocacy, and harmful content can all be treated the same simply because certain words are used.

Meanwhile, genuinely harmful content still circulates freely.

Sometimes it feels like the system is designed to protect advertising comfort rather than the people trying to have honest conversations.

Words matter, and so does being allowed to use them.
