Bush Turkeys are kind of an annoying bird in Australia. They are territorial, they make themselves comfortable in your yard and trash your garden. We had a couple come regularly. One of them was the sweetest bird, we named Scratchy, the other one was a rascal. Scratchy was tamer, would come close to be fed, the other non trusting and flighty, probably had bad experiences with humans. Scratchy visited more often and would just sit in the yard. Last week he/she came with a leg injury, the next day it hadn’t improved. I called Australia Zoo and they delivered a trap to catch it and take it to the zoo hospital for assessment. The capture was easy, and a few hours later Scratchy was collected. Today I rang for an update and the injury was to severe so he was euthanised. I know it was the right thing to do, but I feel guilty, scratchy came to our yard because he felt safe 😕. And I’m wondering if we had have just left it, the injury may have gotten better or he might have just learnt to live with it, and still be alive. I rarely cry, but I cried for that lil turkey. I felt like it was a pet, we were friends, it trusted me.

Anyways I just wanted to acknowledge Scratchy’s life…
