It's a strange world we live in, people's reactions to hearing an unfavourable truth about someone they admire, are usually met with defence.

Even if blatant proof is presented, they often prefer to maintain their ideal, rather than consider the possibility, they may have idolised someone who wasn't who they portrayed themselves to be.

Maybe people are just tired of being disappointed, they want to be able to believe in someone, to believe that good conquers evil. I think we are fast learning that's a bit of a naive outlook these days.

If you have personally experienced dysfunctional people, you aren't surprised when you learn that someone you admired, had a dark side. For me the damaging aspect is that they hide it, it's only witness by a select few, who tend to protect the abuser.

If you are honest about who you are and take accountability people tend to want to see you win. But if they find out you not only lived a lie but embellished it and talked yourself up, that's not so easy to forgive.

I have no idea if the allergations being made towards Matthew Perry are true, and I don't judge a story I don't know. Today's allegations for me were just a segway to a common occurrence. People are rarely who we perceive them to be, and often perceived heroes are just like everyone else, calable of disappointing.
