Each time I removed the lid they appeared. If I’m honest, I think they were the only thing that got me through. Even now, when I think I’m not going to make it, I remove the lid. Not as often as I used to. I’m a bit more resilient now, so I only use them on special occasions. At that realisation, I stopped mid new thought. Did I just refer to surviving as a special occasion?…
