I struggled all my life with feeling mediocre, so of course that is what I would see in my art and writing. Ideas never quite materialised as I had envisaged. The words never translated with the fluidity of my thoughts, they felt thin, and insipid, not at all like they looked in my mind.
My art continued along those lines for many years. Until I decided that I was tired of trying to make everything perfect. Once I removed that pressure, I found myself embracing what I had once perceived as mistakes. Finding ways in which to incorporate them, build on them. Accepting them without harsh criticism allowed me to see them as a challenge rather than a failure.
It’s really important to give yourself permission to just really enjoy parts of yourself that should be celebrated. Whatever your passion might be, allowing yourself to fully embrace it is therepitic.
